What do you want to know?
If it's to do with orchestral instruments, or to have a
go writing your own music, this site has huge amounts of
info, well laid out. There's hours of exploring to be
done.

You're the soloist!
For the aspiring concerto player! This website's
software allows you to play along with many famous
concertos, with more coming on stream soon. The software
tracks what you're playing and adjusts the backing track
to your timings, so you don't have to feel stuck to the
recording. It's not cheap, but if you're looking for the
experience of playing with an orchestra, it could be the
site for you.
Multitrack extraordinaire!
We've feature multitrack vids before, but not with 13
simultaneous feeds. Amazing synchronising and the sound
quality is pretty impressive as well. Anyone think they
can do better?!

Double bass stand up
Jim Tavaré is a stand up comic who was also in The
Prisoner of Azkaban. He's from a musical family, and has
been doing stand up with a double bass for years! He’s
even had some lessons with Cathy Elliott - ESTA project
director!
Pachabel Canon, as you've never heard it before . . .
The St. Lawrence string quartet give a interesting performance on this well known standard - with a twist!
ABRSM - not just exams
If you've never been to their website, there are loads of useful resources available from the ABRSM
(Speedshifter is reviewed in Plugged In), including syllabuses, recording software, guides to exams, games and much much more. www.abrsm.org/students
Study beethoven's study!
A brilliantly put together website about Beethoven's life and work. Look around his study and click on whatever you're interested in learning more about.
Visual composing
A site that lets you compose (and plays back to you the results) by drawing shapes rather than getting bogged down in writing notes. Awesome for first thoughts. www.creatingmusic.com
played by 3 violas, or rather, 1 viola multitracked by the same guy!
One stop Shop
A resource site with pretty much anything you could need - from blank manuscript paper (or even with clefs already added!) to theory worksheets, practice charts, sheet music and many other things. www.makingmusicfun.net
VOLANTE FOLDING BASS
Mentioned in Dave Swift’s interview in the Jesta magazine, (p24) , here’s
a link to this awesome folding Double Bass!
You could do worse than check out tghe range of instruments available at the Sandarac website...
EXTREME CELLOS
These guys have done some
pretty mad things with their cellos to raise money for charities - £20,000 so far!
IGUDESMAN AND JOO
Unbelievably talented, yet completely zany violin and piano duo who really know how to entertain. They’ve had many millions of views on YouTube, and it’s easy to see why. If you’re a violinist, your teacher may have seen reviews of a couple of
Igudesman’s sonatas in arco earlier this year – why not ask if you can try them out?
See how it's done - Technical aspects demonstrated by the great and the - obviously! - good at String Gallery, a great place to go for all things Stringy! David Lepage, Cathy Elliot and more to come!
WATER MUSIC! A violin underwater? Cellists the world over may tell you that that’s a good idea, but here’s a guy actually giving it a go.
SCARED OF AURAL TESTS? Embarrased? Finally, a website that lets you practise at home to get your confidence up. ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall syllabuses are both covered, and the costs are very reasonable
ORCHESTRAL QUEST An incredible resource from The Philharmonia for anyone with questions about any instrument you’re likely to find in an orchestra.
BACH WORSE THAN HIS BIKE? David Juritz attempts to play Bach’s Partita whilst unicycling! Not quite up to Frank's standards, we think!
QUIZZES How well do you know your instrument? Try your knowledge against this selection of quizzes.
RECORD-BREAKING SPEED See Ben Lee from FUSE post his world record winning performance of Flight of the Bumblebee!
CELLO MAYHEM... Ravel’s Bolero, played on one cello by four players! Mad, but awesome.
Fancy a chamber music course to inspire you? Want to make new friends while learning new music? Then Young Grittleton music course is for you.
