What made you try playing and
unicycling at the same time? Well,
a neighbour gave me a unicycle and I decided to learn to ride it.
When I mastered that I thought, "why not juggle whilst riding it?"
When I'd got that trick down, my parents suggested I tried playing
the violin on it! So I did.
How
long did it take to master the trick?
The trick can never be mastered as
there are always ways I can improve
myself; from playing harder songs on
the unicycle or doing more tricks
whilst playing. That's the beauty of it.
Does the cycling interfere with your playing?
When unicycling and playing at the same
time, my mind is always focused on the unicycle. If I wasn't
concentrating I could fall badly and break a leg. Or worse – the
violin!
So the cycling rhythm is foremost in your mind, not the musical
pulse? Yes.
Do you have any special diet to get into shape for unicycling?
The only diet I have to get into shape is
green tea and lettuce.

What sort of music do you enjoy playing when you’re not pedalling
around?
When I'm not performing my tricks, I
enjoy playing the Bach Double, which I
have just learnt. But the type of music
I enjoy playing goes way beyond that,
from folk to jazz.
You told us before the interview that you are currently working
towards your grade 8 –what grade level do you think is capable on
the unicycle?
Any grade would sound good on the
unicycle. The harder the grade the
better the trick! There's no limit.
And your next challenge? - Hang gliding whilst playing Air on a G
string?! Not sure.
No good
playing underwater –it’s already been done!
Editor: This link takes you to a youtube video of an attempt at
playing the violin under water - do not attempt this at home! Thanks,
