THE JOAN DICKSON CHAMBER MUSIC FUND. . .

The JDCMF (Joan Dickson Chamber Music Fund) was established in memory of Joan Dickson, founder member of ESTA and an outstanding figure in British musical life – internationally known as a cellist, an inspired teacher and a chamber musician of distinction. She was an intrepid explorer of new territories in teaching and believed profoundly in introducing young players to the joys and challenges of chamber music, seeing it as infinitely beneficial in their development. Thus it is appropriate that in 1997 ESTA established a fund in her memory, specifically designed to foster the playing of chamber music amongst young people.

Grants from the Fund may be awarded in a variety of circumstances with special emphasis on instigating and supporting chamber music opportunities in communities which are geographically isolated or, for any other reason, lacking in such opportunities. Any practical needs can be catered for, such as the setting up of small music libraries, the hiring of rooms for rehearsing, organising visits from chamber music coaches and helping ensembles or individuals to attend courses. Those benefiting from bursaries must be pupils of ESTA members, the age limit being 18 years or under, though students over 18 may be eligible if they are still in full time secondary education. Over the last twelve years we have given several bursaries a year, ranging from attendance at Pro Corda courses to the setting up of chamber music workshops in difficult to reach areas of Mid-Wales and, more recently, help for ESTA pupils to attend CELLOS ROCK!
Individuals or ensembles applying for a bursary to attend courses must complete an application form and send it to:
